Proper use of a laptop, tablet, or smartphone battery

This article will focus on how to properly use your laptop battery, tablet, or smartphone and keep it as long as possible.

First, we need to make a few remarks:

1. There is no such thing as a memory effect in the batteries.
2. Most batteries over time degrade and nothing can save them.
3. Lithium-ion batteries last about 2 years.
4. Nickel cadmium is even shorter in life.
5. In everyday use, the full discharge of batteries is harmful and is not recommended unless a battery calibration procedure is performed.
6. Lithium-ion batteries can be charged almost no matter how much charge they have in them without damaging the battery. For everyone else, it's nice to charge when they reach about 40% of their charge.

Do I disconnect the charger when the battery is charged?

In the old laptops there was no circuit to control the charge of the battery. Nowadays, this is totally unnecessary. Once the battery reaches its full capacity, it stops charging, and the power is fully used for laptop operation. Once the charger is disconnected, the battery is automatically transferred to the battery.

When do I turn on the battery to charge?

For all modern batteries, total battery drainage results in great stress on itself and to faster and degradation. It is most appropriate to turn on the device when the battery reaches about 40% of your charge, and it is recommended that you let it fully charge.

How Long Is The Life Of Batteries?

All batteries have an optimal number of charges.
Lithium-ion and lithium-polymer have about 1000-1200 cycles.
Nickel-Cadmium batteries have about 500 cycles.

Regardless of how many charging cycles have passed, the batteries are made so that the first year they deliver up to 100% of the set charge and then begins a battery degradation process, delivering between 70 and 80% at the end of the second year. Batteries undergoing heavy work after the second year deliver about 50% of the initial charge.

How do I save the battery?

The biggest pest of the batteries is heat. Summer is very important to be careful where we leave our portable devices. If we leave them in direct sunlight, this will surely lead to a degradation of the battery faster and even to its destruction. The same effect is observed when leaving the device in a car or enclosed room in direct sunlight.

The importance of installing the drivers correctly

A key moment immediately after the Windows installation process or reinstallation of Windows is to find and install drivers for all devices such as a video card, chipset, webcam, sound card, wireless network card or so-called Wi-Fi, peripherals such as printers and scanners, and the exact drivers for the devices and for the right version of the operating system. Typically, even when we buy a new computer, you'll be given a disc or drives for the bottom and video card.

Installing Drivers

There are, however, many cases mostly on new laptops when such discs are not provided to the customer, So finding and installing the right drivers for both embedded hardware and peripherals becomes extremely important. The reason is that the driver "gives life" to the device and determines how it will work and communicate with other devices on the computer system. The same applies to peripheral devices connected to the computer.

Incorrectly installed drivers can cause very serious operating system problems, including hangover, screen freeze, self-resetting Windows, blue screens, complete computer blocking, and many other signs of computer system instability. Very often, even incorrect rotation when installing drivers can cause operating system errors. Driver installation errors may even lead to the need to reinstall Windows again, or restore the system to its original state with System restore, whenever possible. Therefore, it is recommended that the installation and reinstalling of both Windows and the programs and drivers is performed by an experienced computer specialist to avoid future problems with the use of the computer or laptop.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 vs Intel Core i7-7920HQ

We'll focus on two of the best high-end laptop processors in our Processor Rating - AMD Ryzen 7 1700 and Intel Core i7-7920HQ.

In fact, the Ryzen processor is desktop, but it´s consumption and temperatures are considerably low, so it is also used in gaming laptops. ASUS has done just that on its ROG GL702ZC, although this is at the expense of slightly higher temperatures and shorter battery life.

For his rival we have chosen the Intel Core i7-7920HQ, which is not the highest Intel Core processor, but those over it are overclocked.

On the other hand, the Intel Core i7-7920HQ has a lower power consumption of 45W, which is an advantage as it increases battery life and makes the processor cooler more easily. However, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 comes in a significantly more budget laptop - the ASUS ROG GL702ZC, which is the perfect workstation.

All in all, the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is definitely the winner, but the Intel Core i7-7920HQ is not that far behind, so it's a great alternative.

Computer User Tips

Keep your computer and its programs updated

There is no such thing as a perfect software program or hardware drivers. After the developer has released their program they may discover errors and release updates to fix these problems. In the case of major software programs and operating systems, there can be several hundred updates and service packs released during its lifetime. Making sure your computer and its programs are up-to-date can help prevent problems.

Pay Attention to the Software You Install

Many applications, especially freeware, often attempt to install additional software on your system.
In almost all cases you’ll be asked whether or not you want some extra software installed.

The trick is, and We know this can be difficult, is that YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION DURING THE INSTALLATION and actually read those screens that popup with the words on them and NOT just mindlessly click the “Next” button until the process finishes.
If you follow this tip We can guarantee that the amount of junk installed on your system will decrease.
And should you find something installed without your authorization, uninstall it immediately.
